Casting our Care Upon Jesus
John 14:27 “Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.”
The word “peace” in this scripture is the word “shalom” in Hebrew. In addition to meaning peace, calm and quietness of heart, mind and emotions, it also means wellness (health), prosperity, rest, safety, welfare, wholeness and completeness. It denotes a state of untroubled, undisturbed well-being. This is the peace that Jesus gives to us.
Jesus gives us His very own peace. He gives us the peace He enjoyed while on earth. He gives us everlasting peace. He does not give as the world gives. The world gives and takes away but Jesus only gives. He will not take His peace from us (our spirit man). However, if we move out of God’s will, we are choosing to move out of His Peace. Our spirit man is still at peace with God because we still believe in Him as our Savior and Lord but our soul is not at peace. If we stay in God’s will, we will stay in God’s Peace.
We are not to let our hearts be troubled and afraid which will rob us of peace. The devil wants to steal our peace. We need to let go of the things in our lives that our troubling us and depend on God to take care of the situation i.e. marriage, children, finances, jobs, health, etc. We do this by keeping our eyes on Jesus and declaring His promises over our situation.
1 Peter 5:7 “Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you."
It is God’s Word, the Gospel of Peace, that we take and receive into our hearts that will bring us peace.
We can have God’s peace in the middle of a huge storm in our lives by staying focused on Jesus. Peter walked on water because he had his eyes on Jesus even though there was a huge storm all around him. Peter began to sink when he took his eyes off of Jesus and looked at the storm around him but even then he called out to Jesus to save him and Jesus immediately responded to his request.
You may have given in to the enemy’s tactics to rush into something and now you find yourself in a bad situation. Pray and ask God to pour out His grace in your mistakes and allow His peace to guide you.
